Voyageurs Women’s Hockey and @LU_SPAD Raise Funds for the Northern Cancer Foundation

1395983_10153461641820061_912920987_nOn November 2nd, Voyageurs Women’s Hockey and SPAD’s event management class teamed together to raise funds and awareness for the Northern Cancer Foundation. The “Pink The Rink” night was held at Countryside Arena in Sudbury, and featured a match-up between the Laurentian Voyageurs and Nipissing Lakers. A full house showed up to support the women and the evening’s cause. The final amount of fund raised will be announced when the formal cheque presentation is done to the Northern Cancer Foundation.

Sports have proven to be an excellent vehicle to raise awareness about a variety of issues. October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, many teams and organizations do their part to help in the battle. The NFL and other pro sport circuits have become very active in trying to raise awareness. Recently, the trend has manifested itself to hockey arenas around North America with the “Pink in the Rink” concept. With the return of women’s hockey to Laurentian University, this idea was a perfect fit. (more…)

Inaugural LU “Pink The Rink” Event

PINK IN THE RINK2Something exciting is taking place in our community! On November 2nd, SPAD, the Voyageurs Women’s hockey team, and the Northern Cancer Foundation (NCF) are teaming together to host the inaugural “Pink The Rink” event. The fundraiser will be taking place at Countryside Arena, when the Voyageurs host rival Nippissing Lakers for a 7:45pm puck-drop. Join us as we help the Northern Cancer Foundation’s fight against breast cancer!

A number of fundraising initiatives ¬†will be taking place on the night of the event. There will be a ceremonial puck drop to kick-off the night. Other events include a raffle draw, a bake sale, a puck toss, a t-shirt sale, and more on the night of the event! All funds raised at the event will go directly to the Northern Cancer Foundation. Event organizers are working with Laurentian’s “Pub Downunder” to throw a fundraising event on the night of Friday November 1st – stay tuned for more details on this! (more…)
