SPAD and Movember – A Hair Raising Success

The End of Movember: Reuben relieves Lukas of his contribution

As mentioned in a early story by SPAD Blogger Brent Hurley, SPAD Fellas totally embraced Movember – the month formally known as November, when boys and men worldwide started growing moustaches in support of the fight against prostrate cancer.

SPAD students were seen all around campus with unnecessary hair on their upper lips, which to most professors, including myself, was very discerning in a classroom. How could you take one of these young men seriously with such strange growth on their upper lips? But seeing as how it is all in support of a good cause, we all supported it. I am happy to announce that with the close of November so came the shaving of the moustaches!! SPAD boys and their unsightly facial hair raised close to $200 for Prostate Cancer Research and Canada was the number one country raising over $20 million for the cause. Total funds raised  worldwide toped $60 million just from Movember. Wow the power of facial hair. Of course, SPAD did not want the women to feel left out and so at the ceremonial shaving event, Brianne Pankoff (SPAD Frosh) was named Miss Movember  – which I am sure has a story behind it.

As always we are proud of SPAD students and their willingness to go that extra “hair” for a good cause.
