One Day to Go!!

By Timothy Dignard SPAD 08

Last night was the final dress rehearsal for the Opening Ceremony and
VANOC paid staff & volunteers were invited to attend. Although we’ve
been asked to not discuss what happened, I can tell you that my
colleagues and I left BC Place even more impressed than we thought
possible. Do not miss it!

Working in the Sport department, our team is responsible for centralized
sport planning and operations. We’ll be monitoring all competition and
training throughout the Games and act as the main contact for Sport
related matters to our stakeholders, including the IOC and International
Federations. Although based out of headquarters, a lot of time I found
myself running around from venue to venue helping out our Sport teams.
I’ve been fortunate to visit all Sport venues over the past week and I
can tell you that they look fantastic.

For me this project has been three years in the making and tomorrow,
February 12, was a day I had never thought would arrive. To say the
Games have electrified this city would be an understatement. All around
downtown and the venues our brand stands out and looks phenomenal.
Vancouverites are succeeding in ‘painting the town red’ with Canadian
flags hanging from skyscrapers left and right, but in such a great
diverse city it’s no surprise to see all sorts of nations being
represented as well.

To give you a glimpse of how great the venues look, take a look at the
UBC Thunderbird Arena. It’s one of our 2 hockey competition venues and
will be used for sledge hockey during the Paralympics.
