@LU_SPAD Event: The SGA GC Party!

222On Sunday November 24th, third year SPAD students ran their event, The SGA GC Party! The event included the viewing of the 101st Grey Cup between the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The event also included a football themed menu, beverages, games, and trivia to keep all of those who attended entertained throughout the night. It was hosted at the Alumni Hall in the Fraser Building and the event ran from 5:30pm-10:30pm. Everyone in attendance had a very enjoyable evening.

The main event of the evening, the viewing of the 101st Grey Cup, ended in triumph for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and utter dismay for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. After a relatively uneventful first quarter ending in a 7-3 score in favour if the Roughriders, a second quarter scoring outburst took place. The Roughriders put up 24 points in the second quarter allowing only 3 points by the Tiger-Cats. In the third quarter the Ti-Cats put up 7 points and were able to hold Saskatchewan out of the end zone for the entire quarter. Finally, the fourth quarter saw 14 points by the Roughriders and 10 points by the Ti-Cats, ending the game in a 45-23 blowout by the Saskatchewan Roughriders over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Feel good story of the game was the running back for Saskatchewan, Kory Sheets, rushed for a record-breaking 197 yards over the course if the game and was awarded the MVP award of the Grey Cup.

Besides the game, many additional games were put on during the event. A big hit was Plinko, a popular game with many prizes to be won by all of those in attendance. There was also a football toss, with two signed footballs signed by Pinball Clemons as the prizes for both the male and female winners. One of the biggest hits of the event was the raffle table that was being run. It was very popular with all of the attendees, and included prizes such as a Grey Cup history book, a Coors Light Iced Tea LED sign, a Heineken banner and the grand prize, a brand new Playstation4! Organizing committee member, Ben Whyte, had this to say about the event.219

“The SGA GC Party was a great success! Though the games itself could have been more exciting, all of the games and contests throughout the event from Plinko, to the Best Touchdown Dance, to the PS4 raffle at the end of the night gave all of those in attendance an enjoyable night to remember. Our group would like to thank all of our sponsors, volunteers and guests for making this year’s Grey Cup Sunday an enjoyable one!”

We would like to recognize the organizing committee for all of their hard work in making this year’s SGA GC Party a success!. Check out photos from the event here. We look forward to the upcoming SPAD hosted events!
