Inaugural LU “Pink The Rink” Event

PINK IN THE RINK2Something exciting is taking place in our community! On November 2nd, SPAD, the Voyageurs Women’s hockey team, and the Northern Cancer Foundation (NCF) are teaming together to host the inaugural “Pink The Rink” event. The fundraiser will be taking place at Countryside Arena, when the Voyageurs host rival Nippissing Lakers for a 7:45pm puck-drop. Join us as we help the Northern Cancer Foundation’s fight against breast cancer!

A number of fundraising initiatives  will be taking place on the night of the event. There will be a ceremonial puck drop to kick-off the night. Other events include a raffle draw, a bake sale, a puck toss, a t-shirt sale, and more on the night of the event! All funds raised at the event will go directly to the Northern Cancer Foundation. Event organizers are working with Laurentian’s “Pub Downunder” to throw a fundraising event on the night of Friday November 1st – stay tuned for more details on this!

Founded in 1992, the Northern Cancer Foundation works with local partners to raise and distribute funds to advance cancer research, education and patient care. All funds raised by the Foundation stay in the Sudbury area. Researchers continue to work on improving cancer care, through the use of innovative research. This research has not only made an impact in our community, but on a global level as well. Through the years, the NCF has worked with over 100 individual organizations to help take down cancer.

All SPAD students involved in organizing the event are excited for the opportunity to give back to the Sudbury community. Fundraising initiatives have already begun; On Thursday October 17th, organizers hosted a dinner at Boston Pizza, with part of the proceeds of the night going directly to the cause. A number of students and faculty made it out to support the great cause giving us a great start to the fundraising efforts.

On November 2nd 2013, be sure to join the Laurentian Voyageurs Women’s hockey team, the Northern Cancer Foundation and SPAD in their efforts to “Stick It To Cancer”! Stay tuned to the blog for more updates on the event in the coming weeks.
