Happy New Year from SPAD

Happy New Year from SPAD

As SPAD looks forward to 2012, the view is great! We are pleased to welcome Dr. Claude Vincent (previously of the Economics Department) to the SPAD Faculty. Dr. Vincent will bring a wealth of knowledge on the economics and financing of sport as well as strong quantitative approach to the SPAD curriculum. We also take a moment to thank Dr. Xiaoyan Xing for her contributions to SPAD over the past 5 years. Dr. Xing is finishing her teaching requirements from Beijing China this term and then will be pursuing her career at home to be closer to her family. We will certainly miss Xiaoyan but we hope to keep her involved in SPAD through mutual projects as the opportunity arises. With the departure of Dr. Xing, we will be embarking on a recruitment process for a new professor for the SPAD for the 2012-2013 year, so stay tuned the SPAD Blog for updates as this process moves forward.

The New Year will also see the offering of a new 4th year course, The Business of Hockey (more on that in a future blog post) and the return of the Annual SPAD Hockey Tournament. We will also welcome back SPAD Alum Tom Blake to teach the Championship Sales course to both 3rd and 4th year students. Tom always brings such an energy to the term and great industry relevant content which culminates in Game Day – a truly amazing learning experience for all SPAD students.  SPAD Alumni Ben Demianiuk also joins our teaching ranks, taking responsibility for Sport and the Law along with Mr. Claude Lacroix, of Lacroix Forest LLP/s.r.l. who graciously donates his time to share his fine legal mind with our students.

The SPAD Fourth year trip is getting ready to head to Denver to work for a variety of sport teams and organizations. As always, the planning is well underway, lead by Dr. Anthony Church and the student organizing committees. Don’t worry, soon you will be asked to buy SPAD Launch Party Tickets to support the trip and hopefully win some of the fabulous sport memorabilia that our student internship hosts, SPAD alumni and other partners so graciously donate.

And 2012 brings with it the 40th Anniversary of SPAD! Look for more information on this event as the year progress. As we welcome back all SPAD students, we wish our alumni and partners all the best for 2012.
