2nd Annual SPAD Blue Jays Game

2nd Annual SPAD Blue Jays Game

Saturday July 30th Rogers Center, Toronto Ont.-

By Nick Arruda, SPAD Student Council President

The 2nd Annual SPAD Jays Game was a success, despite the Toronto Blue Jays falling 3-0 to the American League West leading Texas Rangers. With Roberto Alomar in attendance on the eve of the retirement of his number 12, the Jays’ bats simply went cold.

Brad Mills, a call up from the Las Vegas 51’s (the Jays’ AAA affiliate), gave up two homeruns, to Mitch Moreland and Mike Napoli, which lead to a loss in his first and only start of the season. The Jays offense succumbed to a strong pitching performance from Derek Holland as he went the distance for a complete game shutout. In doing so, Holland struck out five, giving up one walk and four hits. The win represented his tenth on the season and his fourth in a row since July 2nd, when he recorded a loss to the Florida Marlins.

The game characterized a continuance of the new tradition for the SPAD program, as started last year by SPAD Council President Chris Acroyd. The group in attendance consisted of 28 SPAD students and guests who made the trip to the Rogers Center from locations which include, Muskoka, London, and Peterborough, just to name a few. After the tough loss, the majority of the group when out for a bite to eat and a few drinks at the Real Sports Bar to catch up and discuss the excitement to reconvene in Sudbury on the quickly approaching Labour Day Weekend. See you all in September!!

Hard to See - but SPAD is there (Thanks JP Rains, SPAD'09)
